Black tea from Taiwan (Formosa)

Nantou County

The origin of Taiwanese tea is often referred to as Formosa rather than Taiwan. Discovered by Portuguese sailors, they named the idyllic island off China "Ilha Formosa", which means "beautiful island".

Black tea from Taiwan is characterized by its complex aromas. From mild, sweet and fruity to malty and spicy. Gong Fu Cha is traditionally practiced in Taiwan, as in China. This tea preparation method uses significantly more tea leaves and less water. The infusion time is significantly reduced, allowing many times more infusions to be made. This process elicits the most varied aromas from the leaves.
